Things are starting to return to some sort of normalcy in the town of Indian Head.

The community of nearly 2,000 people about 70 kilometres east of Regina has dealt with many issues related to COVID-19.

Both schools closed their doors and moved to online learning for two weeks in November, and businesses completely closed their doors or turned to curbside pickup.

The Saskatchewan Health Authority declared four outbreaks in the town after Nov. 7, including in long-term and personal care homes.

Despite the gloomy month, things are starting to look up in the community according to Mayor Steven Cole.

“There’s a little bit of movement now in the community, more than what there was a couple of weeks ago but not a whole lot,” Cole said. “It’s a step in the right direction.

“Businesses can only stay closed for so long. It’s nice to see that businesses are starting to reopen and that both schools are open again.

“As long as the community follows the rules, we can keep this under control.”

Both the elementary and high school were closed a week longer than additionally planned, with in-class learning resuming on Dec. 7.

Cole is hopeful the community will remain diligent over the holidays so that there won’t be another spike in cases.

“I really think that people here will follow the rules. I know for my family that my mom and dad among others are planning for Christmas alone to keep our bubbles as small as possible,” he said. “Indian Head will be fine.

“I hope we will continue to see improvement.”
