The Western Hockey League is aiming to have the puck dropped in October.
The league wrapped up its annual general meeting Wednesday afternoon, indicating a Return to Play Protocol for the 2020-21 season.
Oct. 2 is the targeted start date for the league but that could change depending on if proper approval from provincial governments and health officials is given.
A special task force has been created in each of the six districts the league operates in to work with government officials and ensure the health and safety of players, staff, officials, and fans.
The league said it fully intends to complete a full 68-game schedule in 2020-21 regardless of when it begins.
Given the fact the WHL is a spectator-driven league, the league is working with government and health officials in each jurisdiction about spectator capacities in WHL arenas.
The WHL also announced a new streaming service is coming for the Canadian Hockey League and will also feature the Ontario Hockey League and Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
